Landscapes - Sunday Stamps

I had a number of stamps to chose from for Viridian's geology/landscapes theme this week but finally settled for a set from 1966.

Great Britain - Landscapes, 2 May 1966

As is often the case in sets like this there is one from each of the countries - England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. Somehow, to me, a castle seems out of place in a set like this.

For other scenes you should amble over and check out the links at Sunday-Stamps-155.

You are right, the castle does seem a strange choice. I like the colouring of the set.

I'm afraid you're right about the castle... Anyway, it's still a very "geological" stamp. The set is wonderful, I love the colours and the design.

I like these rather better than the more modern ones.

At least the castle has rock featured in the foreground!
thank you for joining in this week.

I hadn't seen the two high values in this set. I like these designs better than some of the modern views they have issued.

I suppose it could be argued that the castle would not be there if it were not taking advantage of the landscape much as the cottages are in sheltered positions in other stamps. Harlech is not the most obvious choice for Wales, though, and Castell Carreg Cennan in Carmarthenshire is an even more imposing castle taking advantage of a rocky outcrop.

Beautiful stamps Bob. I love them all.

Maybe the stone that was used in the castle came from the rock surrounding it? But, I agree, it does seem an odd choice.
It is also a little sad to see that only Scotland has a grey sky ;)

The castle wouldn't have been there if there wouldn't have been stone (or clay?) to built it; stone which must have been dug up from the landscape!? :-)

I like these stamps very much. Such beautiful bright colours!
